Yum! Let's celebrate this glorious day, 🍦 National Ice Cream Day 🍦, with these delicious "Confections" by Sharon Core.

Instead of making paintings from photographs, Core constructs photographs from paintings. Each image in the series is a to-scale simulation of one of the iconic 1960s food paintings by Wayne Thiebaud—paintings that confound reality and representation by replicating cake frosting with the thick impasto of oil paint.

Core faithfully reproduces his originals, capturing their colors, textures, shadows, and perspective. Her images are not only as visually lush as Thiebaud’s canvases, but raise questions about the nature of mimesis.
