It was built at a strategic location by the tip of the ridge leading from Mt. Kamuriki to the Chikuma River. This castle was involved in the intense struggle and strife of the Battle of Kawanakajima, a series of five battles over 12 years, and changed hands between the Takeda and Uesugi armies.
