“I’m reclaiming the Black narrative by doing something I haven’t seen anyone else do.”

When she was 12, @kayrox (Kayla Austin) invented @mygunsbeenmoved — a smart pad that alerts people when their gun’s been moved. “Gun violence affects every community,” she says. “It’s about saving lives and invoking a larger conversation on what it means to safely store a weapon and care about each other and your community as a whole.”

Being able to bring her ideas to life as a Black woman is important “because historically we didn’t have the opportunity to take actions on our dreams.”

“I’m just really grateful for those that came before me, and especially the women that came before me who paved the way and showed me what it means to walk through the world with the spirit of boldness.”
