Striking is shit hot. Especially now, with Hollywood actors and writers shutting down their industry to protest their contracts.⁠

When actors and writers first went on strike more than 60 years ago, it led to residual payments from TV reruns. When the writers went on strike from November 2007 to February 2008, it was about residuals too – in this case, from "new media" like digital downloads and streaming. Today's strike in Hollywood follows that same pattern. ⁠

It's not just big name blockbuster stars: 160,000 actors and 11,500 writers are seeking a pay structure that's more in line with the streaming business. So let's revisit the time this last happened, when the likes of Sopranos, Seinfeld and the guy who now does the White Lotus marched in 2007 for better pay for everyone in their industry.
