It’s terribly sad and tragic that earlier this week the Government's “Illegal Migration” Bill completed its stages in parliament meaning it will soon become law.
For anyone that believes in treating people fairly, it is a historic day for all the wrong reasons.
Vivienne was a long-standing supporter of human rights and one of the Vivienne Foundations pillars is; “Defend human rights”
It is a dark time for the UKs reputation as a protector of human rights and a grave moment for people seeking refuge.
Amongst the array of dark aspects one that is most chilling is the bills removal of time limits on how long children and pregnant women can be detained and the removal of protections of modern slavery survivors.
Attempts were made to reinstate these protections, but the current governments conservative peers and our fellow human beings voted these down.
We must ensure all refugees have their rights upheld and are treated with dignity and humanity whilst seeking safety.
We have to thank @refugeecouncil for their tireless work alongside all the other organizations that although have lost this fight continue to fight ensuring all refugees are treated fairly and humanely.
