If I had someone who looked like me in the music industry as a kid, I probably would have felt more inspired to follow their footsteps because I knew it could be something that was attainable.” thuy’s vulnerable R&B/pop debut “i hope u see this” put her on the map, but it was her follow up “girls like me don’t cry” that brought her a global audience. “‘girls like me don’t cry’ is special to me because it was the first song I made where I really had to push through and show up. It was cool to see how an empowering anthem I wrote for myself turned into an anthem for the crybabies. I talk a lot about mental health, love and heartbreak. Sometimes I feel like I’m too honest, but I find that that’s when I’m the most authentic and feel the most fulfilled.
