Now that I’ve been able to take some time after World Championships to decompress, I can finally reflect on the season as a whole. Coming into the season on the bubble of the top 16, dropping out of the top 16 after the first World Cup of the season, winning my first World Cup in six years, and then going on to win two more, I can say this season was nothing short of a rollercoaster. To finish number 1 in the world for the third time in my career, with the last time being six years ago, feels like validation for everything I put into the sport. Ever since I came back after Covid, I never truly felt like myself in a fencing capacity. Last season showed it and the beginning of this season also showed it. Although I didn’t perform up to my standards at World Championships, I’m still extremely proud of what I was able to accomplish this year. It was a testament to perseverance, grit, and growth. Perseverance allowed me to push through my poor fencing, both in competition and in practice. Grit allowed me to force self doubt out of mind with hard work. Growth allowed me to accept my limitations and evolve as a fencer.
