In 1969, one year after he first picked up a camera, Gilden took the subway train through Brooklyn to Coney Island to shoot pictures of the sunbathers, the weekenders, the sideshow booths and the Cyclone rollercoaster. ⁠

Gilden returned over the next two decades, trudging back and forth along the beach, snapping all manner of eccentric characters. This body of work culminated in the book Coney Island, a humorous and honest view of daily life in Coney Island.⁠

On August 31, we are hosting a major library sale at the Magnum Bookshop in London. A wide range of titles will be available, including a special edition of Bruce Gilden's Coney Island, which comes in a slipcase with a signed print (edition of 100) 📚️⁠
