Growing over 40 feet tall and living to be as old as 200 years, the stunning saguaro cactus found at @saguaronationalpark is an iconic symbol of the American Southwest. The tallest saguaro cactus ever measured towered over 78 feet into the air. 🌵

Saguaros are found exclusively in the Sonoran Desert and are an important host to a variety of animals. The gilded flicker and Gila woodpecker excavate nest cavities inside the pulpy flesh of the saguaros, while elf owls, screech owls, purple martins, finches and sparrows move in after the woodpecker moves on.
