大英博物館さんのインスタグラム写真 - (大英博物館Instagram)「📜 For #InternationalLiteracyDay we’re sharing this scribe’s practice tablet from Ancient Egypt 🖋 This object is the work of a trainee scribe, who has copied down the famous ‘Instruction of Amennakht’ as a writing exercise. 🖍 Under the final line the date has been written in red, in the same way that school students might take notes in their exercise books today. This trainee writer also made a few spelling and grammatical errors! Amennakht, the original author of this text, was a prestigious Egyptian scribe who lived around 1200 BC. Many copies of his works survive – most are his own compositions and are written in his own handwriting, but others are copies made by his apprentices just like this one ✍ 📜 In the ‘Instructions’ Amennakht is extolling the virtues of life as a scribe, and imparting wisdom for the success of his apprentice, a scribe called Hormin. Amennakht had immense respect for the power of writing – he tells Hormin that finishing school is even ‘better than the smell of lotus blossoms in summer’ 🌺 🔎 Ostracon with the ‘Instruction of Amennahkt’.
