Magnum Photosさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Magnum PhotosInstagram)「@susanmeiselas: "Only when I actually entered a refuge and found openness to start a dialogue, did I begin to imagine creating work that could connect women whose lives had been most deeply impacted"⁠ ⁠ While on commission in the Black Country in the West Midlands, UK, Susan Meiselas visited a refuge center for women where she connected with the residents and their environment. Through a series of collaborative workshops, the women worked with Meiselas, alongside an illustrator and a writer, to explore their experiences of domestic abuse and resettlement. ⁠ ⁠ The result is a multilayered visual story comprising photographs, testimonies and collage pieces titled A Room of Their Own. The visual narrative emphasizes absence in order to protect the women's identities when needed. Their presence becomes progressively more visible with the inclusion of their stories, artworks and, in some instances, portraits.⁠ ⁠ A Room of Their Own is on show as part of the group exhibition Close Enough at @hangar.photoartcenter in Brussels, Belgium, until December 16.⁠ ⁠ PHOTOS (left to right):⁠ ⁠ (1) Tia in the garden.
