Throughout her treatment, she needed more than a dozen blood transfusions. “I never really thought about where the blood came from,” her mother Pamela said. “I just knew that whenever Victoria needed a blood transfusion, there was blood available.” When Pamela started working with @RedCrossArizona, that’s when she realized what all was involved in getting blood to patients in need. “I understood that blood doesn’t magically appear on the hospital shelf,” Pamela said. “The process of blood donation and its journey to hospitals involves a well-coordinated effort that relies on numerous volunteers and Red Cross staff. “Now, now I get it. The generous blood donors who roll up their sleeves and share their precious gift with families like mine — I cannot say thank you enough. Because when you donate blood, your gift lifts the spirits of an entire family. Certainly, it is therapeutic to the person receiving it, but everyone in that person’s circle is affected by your gift.” Today, Victoria is a 21-year-old student at Arizona State University, and Pamela is beyond grateful to the donors who shared the blood that was critical to her daughter’s recovery. “All of us — Victoria’s family, friends, medical team — we have all benefitted from the care shown by blood donors.
