Today in 1995, Brian and Van Dyke Parks released their first collaborative studio album, Orange Crate Art. The album consists mostly of songs written and arranged by Van Dyke, with Brian featured singing lead vocals and harmonies. It’s reported that Brian interrupted the first vocal session for the album by asking Van Dyke, “Wait a minute. What am I even doing here?” Van Dyke replied “You’re here because I can’t stand the sound of my own voice!” Brian paused, nodded his head, and stepped up to the microphone proclaiming, “Well, that makes sense! OK, take one.”
