While most tourists visiting Morocco were checking out the bazaar’s at Marrakesh and the blue buildings in Chefchaouen, we found ourselves out in the middle of nowhere as we pushed the limits of our 4x4 vans down the coast of Morocco. We were looking for sea cliffs that we could fly, but we made another discovery along the way: Most of the cliffs had homes built into the side of them. Some carved right into the cliffs (like in the video) and some built on the outside of it with clay, rocks, fabric, whatever the locals could find. Every morning, during our morning run, we’d see them emerge from their caves, venturing to the waters edge at low tide to catch fish, mussels and octopus. Once the tide would rise, they’d return to their sea-cliff caves to enjoy what they had caught-problaby their only food for the day based on their meager lifestyles. At the end of the day, they’d walk the beaches, enjoying the sunset and sounds of the waves crashing close to their homes. Such a simple, yet challenging lifestyle. I guess in a way, I can relate to them. Just like the cave people, we have cut out a lot of life’s amenities in order to enjoy the life we currently have. Toilets, hot water showers, electricity, these are all now luxuries for us. Sure eliminating some of these things makes our lives harder (I still have cold river showers).
