(photo by @daveyoder) Backstage at a Gucci show, a model, pictured through champagne glasses reserved for the end of the show, awaits her turn with a stylist. Men's fashion week is recently over, which means women's is approaching in February, during which hordes of designers, editors, stylists, and photographers (the original bearers of the term "fashionista") will blaze a four-city trail from New York to London to Milan and then Paris. I don't shoot backstage much anymore, but it was an enlightening experience when I did--I went to my first shows expecting to witness the stereotypes associated with high fashion; temper tantrums, drugs, self-starvation. To my surprise, there was little to none of that. Behind the catwalk is usually hidden a chaotic scene, something I called the Hourly Miracle, often with the models out on the runway mere seconds after changing on the run. The girls all seem to be eating desserts, and due to frequent clothing changes, there is a code of honor between the models and the few photographers allowed backstage. @thephotosociety
