San Joaquin River, west of Fresno, CA. Photo by @peteressick. This river starts in the Ansel Adams Wilderness in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It flows through several dams before the water is used by farmers for irrigation in the Central Valley. A little further downstream the river goes dry in the summer. It once had a salmon run and there are efforts to restore the river somewhat. Recently, it was named the most endangered river in the USA by the watchdog organization American Rivers.
