Fortyfive years ago today Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon. The eight day mission was a giant step in exploration - a mere sixteen years after the first ascent of Mt Everest. With less computing power than the device you are holding and a ball point pen, these three brave men inspired humanity and gave us a chance to ponder what is beyond. The view of our small planet was a wake up call. We are pretty small in the context of the cosmos. As a kid on a bike this was the coolest thing ever. We could do anything. And we did. ??? The spirit of exploration continues as it is part of human DNA. Future exploration will not be terrestrial - we've mapped this planet pretty well. The oceans, the atmosphere, our solar system and the nano-sphere all offer the next gen of explorers plenty of opportunity. How we feed, clothe and shelter the 7 billion and counting population is a wide open field. While not having a summit or a landing site like Mare Tranquillitatis, this challenge and how we address it, will have a long reaching impact on our existence. ? courtesy of NASA archives, Buzz Aldrin ? in moon boots and the gold wrapped lunar module. @ザ・ノースフェイス @ナショナルジオグラフィック #neverstopexploring
