The lonely archipelago lies 800 miles north of the arctic circle in Russia's Barents Sea and stands as a barometer for climate change and our impacts both above and below the surface. When we were on land, polar bears were always a major concern...especially in white out conditions. Russian guards traveled with flares, cracker shells, and guns in the event of an encounter. Exploration has many faces and I'm always learning about new environments and challenges as I move through new landscapes. It's an incredible opportunity and one that I constantly try to grow through. #neverstopexploring
