While looking through my archive, I ran across some of my #moleskine journals, one for every story that I’ve done. It’s been interesting realizing just how much work I’ve done for @ナショナルジオグラフィック .

This Journal is from a trip to #Uyghur section of Western China in 1998 for a story about the #Han Dynasty. I was shooting film at that point in my career, and would check my lighting through the use of #polaroids. As a result I ended up with lot of those lighting tests and would stick them into my journals in order to study them later and to remember the trip, along with other artifacts from the trip.

The family from this photo invited in me into their home near Jiaohe in the Turfan basin, where they fed me #Uyghur noodles as my ears popped from being in the third lowest land elevation in the world.
