238 years ago this month, the Gunboat Philadelphia is launched. It was part of the ragtag fleet of American boats that faced an advancing line of British ships on Lake Champlain in New York in October 1777. The Philadelphia, sank during the battle and rested on the bottom of the lake until 1935, when it was recovered.
