Photo @lucianocandisani ( Luciano Candisani ) . During the five days assignemt for the story "Jaguars of the water", in this mouth’s issue of National Geographic Brasil, my “studio” was a small canoe. A narrow and unstable boat, but perfect for long journeys seeking jaguars through the maze of semi-submerged trees in the flooded forest of Mamirauá, in the heart of Amazon Bazin. When the forests are flooded , jaguars leaves for five months over the trees . With our little boat-studio we got close of this female Jaguar in the picture. Confident, she tolerated us floating just 15 metres below the branches she was resting over and even fell asleep right there, for hours at a time. In the search for a good angle to record any movement of the cat I lay at the bottom of the canoe with the camera on the tripod, facing up. During the long wait, I doze off a couple of times, waking up always in shock. As you can imagine, sleep wedged in a canoe with a adult jaguar resting in a thin banch less than a dozen feet above head, is not something exactly quiet and safe. Only with the showers at the end of the day the expected action happened in front of the lens. The scene brought joy and a big prejudice: the same heavy rain that made Jaguars lift also flooded our small floating Studio and most of the cameras on board. The card inside the main camera, however, escaped intact, with dozens of pictures, among them the image above that opens the story. #photography #conservation #nature #art #arts #natgeo #jaguar #zoology #biology #conservação #onça #Amazônia #Amazon #cat #bigcats @natgeo @ngbrasil @natgeocreative @ilcp_photographers @lucianocandisani
