Day 3 of the #blackandwhitechallenge. Stoked to be digging out some pics from the archives.
I spent several months over two summers staring at the north face of K6 in Pakistan's Karakoram Range. I was there to climb other objectives but it was hard to ignore this massive face across the valley looming over basecamp. As a climber, you look at the architecture of a mountain and try to make sense of it, try to find an aesthetic line that inspires you. K6's north face is one of the most terrifying faces I've ever contemplated - highly complicated w ridges ending in the middle of nowhere, exposed everywhere to seracs, avalanches and just plain huge. Even after months looking at it, I never saw a line I thought you could survive. The northwest face of K6 West (7100m) was eventually climbed by Raphael Slawinski and Ian Welsted last year.
