Part 1 of 2 in this installment of my occasional series - How Not to Become a National Geographic Photographer #NOTGEO or You can't learn from your mistakes if you'd don't make any

This is the 20 year-old version of me during my internship at The Palm Beach Post. We were scouting locations to place remote cameras that would hopefully be triggered by the explosive sound of the space shuttle's main engine firing.
The closest people to the launch site would be over 3 miles away. Our unattended cameras could be much closer but you had to set them up well in advance.

The variables ; light, exposure, weather, launch time, remotes, film and more. The only thing you really knew for sure was the direction the shuttle was heading, up.

32 years ago I covered one of the first launches of the Space Shuttle at the Kennedy Space Center. Last week I went back there with my son for a school project and am retracing a few of my steps @vincentjmusi

thanks to Dayna Smith @drinkeatshoot for making this photo, it's how we made selflies back in the day #notgeo #theLIFEphotographic @thephotosociety #nasa #space #shuttle
