The story of the tragic death of Magnum co-founder #RobertCapa seems to be pretty well-known in the photographic world. Maybe a bit less known is that the cooperative, just seven years after it was founded, actually lost two members in the field almost simultaneously. Photographer #WernerBischof died just days before Capa -- his car fell off a cliff while he was working in the Andes Mountains -- and amazingly, the news of both accidents reached Magnum’s offices the EXACT same day. In fact, when Magnum's staff was relayed the second wave of bad news hours after receiving the first, they thought it must have been a misunderstanding, a confusion of names. That year, 1954, was a difficult one for the young, budding cooperative. This is a photograph by the great #WernerBischof from Cuzco, Peru, captured some days before his death.
