Photo: @SteveWinterPhoto. I imagine this is what it would look like to wake up to a tiger looming over you. Thanks to @NatGeo's Photo Engineering department I was able to get this shot without any threat to my life by using a camera mounted to a remote-controlled "toy" car. This was shot #onassignment in India's Bandhavgarh National Park for the "Story A Cry for the Tiger" that ran in the Dec. 2011 issue of @NatGeo. What I did wake up to was some great news about India's wild tigers. The National Tiger Conservation Authority of the Government of India (NTCA) published the findings from their 2014 tiger census and it states that India’s tiger population is at 2,226. The 2014 census covered more geographical area and used better technology so it’s hard to compare to the 2010 population count of 1,706. Regardless, more tigers means more hope of survival! As NTCA’s report states, “future of tigers in India depends on maintaining undisturbed core habitats for breeding tiger populations, habitat connectivity and protection from poaching of tigers and their prey.” The organizations listed below all have on-the-ground projects that front-line tiger conservation, insuring one or all of those aspects, and every dollar donated to these organizations goes towards those projects. If you wish to help tiger conservation efforts, make a donation to one of them.
