A clownfish peers from the protective ultra white tentacles of its host anemone that have lost their symbiotic algae. This effect is called bleaching and it is caused by a warming event. Coral reefs also reject their symbiotic algae during heat stress events. Algae can be regained if environmental factors improve. Clownfish have developed the ability to live within the anemones toxic tentacles and they require host anemones as habitat to survive. Anemones do not require clownfish to survive but they do benefit greatly from their presence because the clownish protect the anemone from being eaten by other creatures.
