#2 Afternoon Tea on Iona
All Scottish island journeys seem to come back to Iona. This little island has been special, even before St. Columba came here, who was exiled from Ireland in AD 563 and came to establish his monastery. You’ll not want to miss it, nor the superb Celtic crosses standing in the graveyard (St. Martin’s cross has been standing there since the 9th century). Wander amongst the grave slabs pondering which might be MacBeth (Scotland’s Kings were buried here for centuries). Iona isn’t big, only four miles from beach to beach, but it’s big on serene tranquility. You’ll find me on a sunny summer afternoon, having my cream tea on the lawn in front of the Argyll hotel, watching pretty boats bobbing in the turquoise waters while children build kingdoms of sand castles on the beach. Sitting there you’ll see the Iolaire off on another trip to Staffa. You'll compliment yourself on your good luck, and wonder if you should have another cup of tea or go explore the nunnery. #islandobsession #scotland
