During World War II, this poster reminded Americans not to waste food. Chicken producers were worried about food waste as well, and that led to the selling of chicken in individual cuts. Today, Americans overwhelmingly want white meat. Poultry farmers actually export excess dark meat to other countries. In 2009, for example, Russia alone spent $800 million for 1.6 billion pounds of U.S. chicken legs.
