Photograph by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz A cave on the Jordanian shore of the Dead Sea is lined with a thick layer of salt crystals and stalactites from the splashing of wind-driven waves . The water in the Dead Sea is some of the saltiest in the world, with seven times the salt content of the sea. To get this view, I poked my head down through a hole in the back of the cave at sunset and watched as a solitary drop of salty water to fell to the surface. While most people perceive deserts as wastelands, to me they are exquisitely beautiful places in need of protection. To see more visit @geosteinmetz
