Severe Cyclone Pam was one of those storms we won’t forget anytime soon. It was the second strongest storm on record in the South Pacific, led to pumping Gold Coast (albeit slightly late for the WSL), devastated Vanuatu, and enlightened rarities across the Pacific Islands. Pam then went extratropical and produced one of the most significant March Southern Hemi swells the Americas have seen in over a decade. It also just might have kickstarted El Nino into second gear. Read the details in our latest installment of #AnatomyofaSwell, now live on the site.
Oh and one more thing, Surfline’s long time (30 years!) San Diego surf report coordinator – the one and only “Bird” (@birdssurfshed) is shown here on one of the many “Pam” waves he scored late last month. Well overhead southern hemi waves in trunks is a special thing for SoCal #SurflineForecast Photo: Sangiolo
