Photo by: @hiddenwwi | Considered a symbol of good luck, this drawing of a cat made a century ago by a Canadian or British WWI soldier exists today in total darkness in a large WWI underground city in which up to 24,000 soldiers once lived. It had a 700 bed hospital and the infrastructure of a modern city. “Stairways to hell” can be found today which connect the underground city to the trenches above.
Last Fall, I had the privilege to take a BBC-1 television crew into this place. It was the first media coverage of hidden parts of this underground city and was broadcast in primetime across the BBC network in early October, 2014.
