Following the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster, people in the neighboring villages were evacuated. Promised to be quickly returned to their homes, inhabitants often only gathered bare essentials during evacuation. Believing the official lie, they left behind personal items and treasured belongings – many of which have been stolen by roving scavengers, despite rudimentary attempts to keep out intruders.
