An ensemble of dying palm trees suggests that the Salton Sea has seen better days. In the 1960’s, the Salton City Yacht Club was the place to be, before it was shut down and boarded up at the end of the tourist boom in the early 70’s. Fluctuating sea level with increased salinity hastened its decay, and in 2000 it was completely demolished, leaving only some palm trees as a monument to the settlement's former glory.
