Dune 45 is a huge dune in the Sossusvlei area of the Namib Desert in Namibia. Its name comes from the fact that it is at the 45th kilometer of the road that connects the park entrance gate and Sossusvlei. Because it is close to the road, it is a popular dune to climb and photograph. At about 500 feet high, and because your feet sink in the sand, it can be a challenging climb to the top on a hot Namibian day. This is a desert, after all, and nothing comes easy. The views from the top are amazing, and certainly worth putting your hands up in the air. The best part of the climb is getting down...which is most easily done by running down the side of the dune at full speed with no fear or hurting yourself in the soft sand. So fun!
