Meandering over dirt roads festooned with unleveled consistency, a farmhouse stood in self-respect amidst a cluttered landscape a few kilometers outside of #Gyumri. Fenced by a series of old wooden window frames dappled in ornate metal flowers, the discards appeared majestic in their rusting legacy. Bygone decades, this latticework may have covered a window of undulating lead glass, the portal into a world where I imagine children may have gazed an impressionistic view through a multitude of 6x6 formats of their petite village. Memorized by simplicity, we pulled off to the side of the narrow bridleway to let another car pass, a vehicle that turned out to be a roving market where house slippers, matches, coffee, potatoes and hand soap could be procured from the boot of a vintage Lada by a grateful husband and wife. Like us, they too were roamers. Standing in our dust covered shoes before a fence of poetic respect, @AnushBabajanyan and I were embraced by more enchantment — two birds engaged in complex song, a courtship high overhead in those trees on the right. I only took a few photographs — it was enough — before wandering over to the roving merchants were we purchased apples and unsalted sunflower seeds from their trunk of busting commodities, returning to this spot to record with Anush the swirling melody above. Shortly, we drove off in silence, politely tossing along the side of the road our cracked shells and tooth-marked apple cores, fulfilled by the naive beauty of the Fence, the symphony of sound that resonated a quiet tome for the moment, too saturated to speak.
