The @nytvideo journalist @mcheathamw spent about a year working on a @nytimessports story about Josi and her teammate and friend, Laís Souza. Laís, 25, one of Brazil's best Olympic gymnasts, qualified to compete in aerial skiing at the Sochi 2014 Winter Games. But a serious skiing accident changed the course of her life. Later, when Josi was offered a spot at the Olympics, Laís encouraged her to go. “This attempt at aerial skiing was her chance to achieve her Olympic goals,” @mcheathamw said of Josi. “Though she placed last in Sochi, her jump was an incredible testament to the strength of her bond with her teammate Lais.”
