Photo by @marcovernaschi |— From the Series #Bitter Harvest. Aixa Ponce Cano was born with CMN Syndrome consisting of giant, hairy-pigmented moles all over her body and has three huge tumors on her back. She lives in Avia Terai, Argentina, with her mother and 6 siblings, in close proximity to soybean fields that are regularly sprayed with pesticides. After publishing this photograph -- part of the #BiophliaFoundation campaign #SEEDSforLIFE, which goal is to bring awareness on the aftermath of industrial agriculture while promoting a more sustainable model of rural development -- something amazing happened. Marco Vernaschi was contacted by a major music star - who wishes to remain anonymous – who offered to help changing Aixa’s life. That email started a chain of events that brought Aixa and her mother, Sylvia, from their small town in Chaco Province to a private clinic in Buenos Aires. Marco located a clinic, and also arranged for a plastic surgeon, dermatologist, oncologist, and pediatrician to provide for her care. Aixa went through a week of testing, and then had a four-hour surgery to remove the massive tumors and a few moles on her face. Learn more about Aixa's story on @natgeo proof story #ThePowerfulPictureThatChangedAGirl'sLife - that was published in March as a complimentary content to #ArgentineIdentities, featured on @natgeo Magazine in April 2015.
