#Afghanistan

In the mountainous region of Nuristan, a traveler stops at a mosque. The believer or curious traveler who enters one is flooded by the serenity it emits. The mosque is, first and foremost, a sanctuary. The passer-by shares a moment of his life in a space where both body and spirit find a haven of peace. A container filled with freshwater quenches thirsty mouths. In each mosque, the same scene enlivens the silence. Here, a man runs his prayer beads between his fingers, murmuring his devotions as a group of students quietly studies. One woman reads the Koran and another whispers an inaudible prayer.
