Referred to as Mother of the Black Earth, this large tree on the land of the Munduruku is several hundred years old. Historically, the Munduruku are a people with a warrior tradition. They culturally dominated the region of the Valley of the Tapajós River, which during the 19th century was known as Mundurukânia. They still live mostly by hunting, fishing, gathering and agriculture, but their lifestyle is threatened by the construction of a great waterway on the central Brazilian rivers, such as the Rio Canuma.
