The Wapixana people of Brazil have always been exposed to European influence mainly because they have traditionally lived very close to the main rivers Branco and Uraricoera. Using a wooden spatula, a native worker dries the locally grown cassava grain (maniok) over a large, open, heated pan. The cassava will later be sold at a nearby market.
