Around this time of year in the northern hemisphere, the majority of bears are beginning to emerge from their winter dens. While some in warmer states and elevations will awake earlier, others in more extreme climates may have a couple weeks to go. Grizzly sows such as this will stay in their dens longer than most other bears as they want to avoid as much bad weather and snow as possible, as to make the journey easier on their cubs.
