French painter #RobertDelaunay was born on this day in 1885. From our collection, enjoy "Red Eiffel Tower (La tour rouge),” 1911-12, one of a series of works featuring the uniquely French symbol of invention and aspiration. As it was for many literary and artistic figures of the day, the Eiffel Tower became an image of modernity for Delaunay. In its capacity as a radio tower, it embodied the international communication Delaunay envisioned breaking down boundaries and transforming Europe into a global community.
