Photo by Jeff Gusky @hiddenwwi | Adolf Hitler passed through these gates at Langemark cemetery outside of Ypres, Belgium on June 1st, 1940. Propaganda videos show him at this very spot. Many people who have visited this place in modern times describe it as eerie. I couldn’t sleep after visiting this place in early 2011. Of all the experiences I’ve had during the past five years of photographing The Hidden World of WWI, this place was uniquely disturbing.
