#FischliWeiss’s art poses questions, literally. While the Swiss artist duo shifted seamlessly over the years—from photography and video to clay, polyurethane, and rubber (and back again)—they never stopped asking questions, accumulating an archive of thousands of queries. As their catalogue of questions grew, the artists handwrote their queries on index cards, which they transposed onto slides for projection. Scrawled in white handwriting, "Question Projections" (2000-03) emerge in darkened exhibition spaces as if from the recesses of the inquirers’ minds, with one probing thought dissolving into the next. Ranging from the most trivial of inquiries to profound ruminations, these questions map a universe of concerns that reveals the vulnerability of the human condition. The questions posed are all rhetorical—they playfully and pointedly expose the fact that life is infused with so many unknowns. ? @dmheald
