You do that with 30,000 other girls and women in #Kenya, and after a decade you will have planted more than 8 million revenue-producing, carbon-sequestering #trees that generate a host of benefits, from decreasing soil erosion to increasing food security.
That's the story of #TIST, the International Small Group and Tree Planting program that began with a few groups of 10 to 12 people in Tanzania in 1999, and has since spread to Kenya, Uganda and India, providing income through the sale of carbon credits, as well as contributing to #sustainable agriculture, sustainable forestry, and #reforestation. As we celebrate Arbor Day, let us remember the words of the Kenyan activist, tree planter, and Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Wangari Maathai: "It's the little things citizens do.
