There a five extant species of pygmy possum - four are endemic to Australia and one species also co-occurs in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.
As a group their length ranges from about 5 to 12 cm and they usually weigh between 10 and 50 grams. They are omnivorous, living on a diet of invertebrates, fruit, seed, nectar and pollen and are also excellent climbers.
Having just come out of its nest box, this one was photographed on Kangaroo Island by @doug_gimesy using a #Nikon #D750 and a #NIKKOR AF-S Micro 105mm f/2.8G IF ED.
