"Macro photography is one of my favourite forms of photography because it allows me to slow down and appreciate the often overlooked beauty in the world around us. This particular image of the Grass Blue butterfly was a fortunate moment right in our backyard. The evening before, I noticed several insects settling down for the night on the grass in our yard. Anticipating a cool, calm night, I seized the opportunity to wake up early and see if they had stayed the night and, hopefully, were covered in dew. To my delight, this little guy was right where he had landed the night before. I took this image handheld using the AF-S VR Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED with the Mount Adaptor FTZ II, an SB-600 flash, and a diffuser. While I usually attempt focus stacking to enhance depth of field, I took this image at f/16, which provided enough depth to showcase the intricate details of the butterfly's wings along with the delicate water droplets."
