"Driving through Fiordland in New Zealand’s South Island, I was on a mission to document the world's only true alpine parrot. The Kea is classed as nationally endangered with a population between 3,000-7,000, which made this opportunity a little bit more special. Jumping out of a warm car and lying down in the cold dirt to compose the scene and tell the story of where the Kea lives. I used the mountain snow on the left and the forest behind the Kea and paired them with a wide aperture to provide just enough of a story without taking away from the main subject. These Kea are so incredible up close that I couldn’t resist taking a few detailed shots to share with anyone who hasn’t seen them in person."
