On view in #MoholyNagy, "Architecture 1 (Construction on a Blue Ground)" is one of the earliest instances in which Moholy used metallic paint, exemplifying his affinity for industrial finishes. This work marks a departure from representational imagery to abstraction. A conservation treatment performed in 1998 included a meticulous, partial reduction of a thick layer of white paint that had concealed a painting on the verso, which displays the typical attributes of the industrial and landscape motifs Moholy had been depicting up until this time.
