As the sun sets over Yellowstone National Park’s Hayden Valley a bull bison looks out across the valley as other members of the herd forage for food in the deep snow. Such images always have an added poignancy when you consider what this scene might have looked like just a few hundred years ago, before the early settlers to the US slaughtered 50 million of these incredible creatures for food, for sport and to deprive the native Americans of a vital resource. Though I captured this image back in January 2014 other commitments have meant that it is only now seeing the light of day for the first time.
